On February 19, Sangmyung University won the Grand Prize in the Education Brand category at the 2025 31st Korea Best Design Award. This award was received by President Kim Jong-hee.
The Korea Best Design Award is hosted by the Korean Society of Commodity Culture Design and sponsored by the Korea Federation of Design Associations, the Korea Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations, and The Korea Economic Daily, and is an award that boasts the highest authority in Korea in the fields of branding and design.
The award, which has been held since 1995, strengthens national competitiveness by enhancing companies’ motivation for product development and improving the quality of design, and selects the best designs to promote design research and development and to establish and activate sound product culture design, granting KD certification.
Award Driven by Educational Innovation Policies
Sangmyung University has long cultivated creative talents based on its strengths in culture, arts, and design. In recent years, it has further proposed a new educational model by integrating its design capabilities with other academic disciplines. This approach goes beyond simply teaching major-specific knowledge and focuses on fostering creative thinking skills that enable students to solve real-world problems.
In particular, this award reflects the achievements of the educational innovation policies implemented since President Kim Jong-hee took office. Emphasizing “student-centered education” as a core value, the university has reformed its teaching methods and strengthened an advanced learning environment utilizing cutting-edge technologies. By expanding education in artificial intelligence, big data, and design convergence, Sangmyung University has supported students in developing the competencies required for a rapidly changing, technology-driven society.
In addition, the university has actively expanded cooperation with domestic and international universities and institutions. In February this year, President Kim visited several Italian universities—including Sapienza University, the University of Florence, D’Annunzio University, and Link Campus University—to sign agreements and engage in discussions for active exchange programs, thereby establishing a foundation for students to gain diverse global experiences. The university has also strengthened its recruitment and support systems for international students, growing into a more globally diverse campus where students of various nationalities study together.

It is all thanks to the dedication and efforts of our university members. We will continue to live up to the name and tradition of the Sangmyung brand and strive to contribute to the advancement of global education beyond Korea, becoming a truly substantive and competitive university.”
This award officially recognizes Sangmyung University’s educational brand image and its contributions to the advancement of education both domestically and internationally. Moving forward, Sangmyung University will continue to develop a balanced approach between tradition and innovation, striving to grow into an educational brand that competes on the global stage beyond Korea. With this achievement as a turning point, the university is expected to further enhance the quality of education and devote greater efforts to nurturing creative talents who will lead future society.
